TAIPEI (The China Post/ANN) – Friends and relatives of Taiwan-born actor Godfrey Gao (高以翔) expressed their sorrow and pain following his sudden passing during filming in China on Wednesday.
The Canadian-Taiwanese actor, 35, was confirmed dead by his entertainment agency Wednesday after collapsing while filming action variety show “Chase Me” produced by Zhejiang Satellite TV in Ningbo.
He was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency treatment for almost three hours, according to various sources, but doctors were unable to resuscitate him.
He was officially pronounced dead early in the morning, according to JetStar, his agency, which didn’t elaborate on the exact cause of his death.
His passing, JetStar said in a statement, “has stunned us and made us very sad. It is hard to accept what has happened.”
JetStar expressed gratitude to Gao’s fans and news outlets that expressed their condolences, noting that company representatives and colleagues were by his side before his family arrived in Ningbo after receiving the sad news.
“Please note the sadness and grief Godfrey’s family is suffering right now and do not bother them,” JetStar said, “We will do everything we can to help them deal with the aftermath of his death in as low-key a manner as possible.”
Gao, who was born in Taipei in September 1984 to a Taiwan father and Malaysian mother has two elder brothers. He was educated in Canada and earned a bachelor’s degree before returning to Taiwan to pursue a career in entertainment in 2004.
In recent years, he has made several participants on action variety shows in Taiwan and China.
In “Chase Me,” which started broadcasting earlier this month, guests are divided into two teams and compete on various missions. ●
